ELECTROLYZER - Primary water tester

The Principle:

An electrical power source is connected to two electrodes or two plates (typically iron bar is the anode and an aluminum bar is a cathode) which are placed in the water. 

When the power is on, positive ions will appear at the cathode (the negatively charged electrode - iron bar) where electrons enter the water and react to produce a water-insoluble group with negative electrolyte, colloid, organics, or in-organics. 
Because of the current, original metal particles dissolved in water, such as lead, arsenic, chromium, manganese, potassium, cobalt, etc. are electrolyzed out and gradually gather into the metal group.
